Reflective Practitioner ZINE, MTeach 2017
Artist book/ZINE project intended to help develop a reflexive practice. Exploration of ideas of self and the multiple identities assumed by all in our multiple roles, in this case reflecting on the experience of both Teaching and Learning.
Theoretically challenging, to teach this would involve students thinking deeply about who they are, and to identify their own metacognition, What makes them them, what motivates them in their actions and how they change roles depending upon the space and roles they occupy.
Regarding Material Practice, this would be used as a way to expand upon Block printing to students, and a way to explore the Artist's Book as Print Object. A threshold concept with Relief Printing is Positive and Negative space, without understanding the process become frustrating and tedious. There are numerous ways to create an Artist Book, just some of which can be found here, Artist Books allow a degree of expression and creative freedom within printmaking, while still adhering to the formalities of editioning and registration. The example provided above is intentionally ignoring traditional printmaking conventions while still being a hand made print object. To teach Students what and why this is requires them to first learn the rules, before learning where they can be broken.
