Drawing as Monoprinting

April 11, 2017

Looking at portraiture as a means to develop the student's Eye while also teaching the basics of Relief printing. Through a series of drawing exercises using mirrors and transparent overlays the student's confidence and ability to 'see' is enhanced. These drawings are then taken as prompts to develop a series of Monoprints, an introduction to Relief printing that rewards spontaneity.

Screenprinting Workshop, MTeach 2017

October 09, 2017

Conducted an introduction to Screenprinting with fellow Teacher Candidates during MTeach 2017.

Starting with the collaborative practice of Heretic Spectral Nation (http://www.hereticheretic.co.uk/spectral-nation/prints) as our provocation, the class explored the the technique and materiality of Screenprinting in a collaborative manner. By using this medium to explore colour theory, and allowing for accidents and mistakes to become aesthetic considerations the class was able to experiment freely, developing the techniques required for more controlled, precise work later. Using unstable tissue paper to create stencils proved to add an uncontrollable element, lending a large degree of freedom to the normally rigid and controlled process. A lesson plan for this class is provided here
